SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has sent his condolences to US President Barack Obama on the Connecticut school shooting that killed 28 people, including 20 children.
In his condolence letter, Mr Lee said he was "deeply shocked and saddened" to hear of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Offering his sincere condolence to Mr Obama, the victims' families and all Americans on behalf of the government and people of Singapore, Mr Lee said "an event like this reminds us of our common humanity, regardless of nationality, or where we live in the world."
Mr Lee said the shooting was a "senseless loss of innocent young lives, especially since schools should be sanctuaries" for children.
Mr Lee wished Mr Obama success in his efforts to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future.
He added the nation's thoughts are with the victims' families and all Americans "during this difficult time".
